Correspondence, dated June 5, 1869, from the U.S. Dept. of the Treasury, Second Auditor, to Aldrich. The correspondence concerns pay due to her deceased brother, Capt. George Hutchins of Company D, 12th Michigan Infantry. She was to be paid $126 for his services rendered from May 1 to July 1, 1862, according to the Act of July 22, 1861. The correspondence was signed with the stamped signature of E.B. Finch. Also included is George's service record (1 p., copy).

Aldrich lived in Rome (Mich.). George Hutchins of Hudson (Mich.) enlisted on Nov. 14, 1861 at age 19 in Company D, 12th Michigan Infantry. He was mustered on Jan. 8, 1862. His unit participated in the battle at Shiloh (Tenn.) on April 6, 1862. He died at Cincinnati (Ohio) on July 1, 1862. (For further information see the regimental history.).
